The Article...

Visiting the dentist has never been something to look forward to until now. Deborah Granado-Hayes took on the challenge of her client Dr. Ron O’Neal to create a space that was anything but clinical. The idea was to create a space that embraced Tampa history and would make his patients feel at home. Deborah’s experience curating elements for her two stores The Red Herring and Details made her the perfect choice for him. “No one puts things together the way she can”, says Dr. O'neal, “She made my office special, something that can’t be replicated.”

The inspiration started with the old Tampa courthouse that is set for renovation. Sensing an opportunity to preserve the past and utilize the history of the building, she decided that the courthouse doors were exactly what the Doctor needed. The doors then became the basis for the design. Deborah used a door labeled US Tax Offices for the Doctor’s Office and if you are invited in you will be seated in jury box chairs to hear his verdict. In case you are looking for the additional staff while they are not attending to patients check the Jury Assembly Room located toward the back of the office.

Entering the space, visitors are greeted with a cozy home-like waiting area with a mix mid century comfortable chairs sourced from a movie prop house, and a zinc-top homework desk for the little ones to play while they wait. The home-like approach is what makes the space stand out. The warm and subtle hues of the reclaimed wood coupled with an abundance of soft daylight instantly radiate a sense of comfort and calmness. Milky glazed concrete floors guide you to the high tech patient rooms. Deborah worked with Dr. O’Neal to select the color palette and finishes to merge state of the art equipment with her at home design. “It’s funny”, says Dr. O’Neal “Everyone wants a tour when they come in now!”
